MGA performance metrics that matter

A balanced view of growth, underwriting, operations, claims and control indicators.

By MGA Index Newsroom Updated as market practice evolves
DEFINITION

MGA performance cannot be evaluated through premium or loss ratio alone. A useful scorecard combines outcome measures with leading indicators of selection, pricing, operations and control.

Outcomes need development context

Loss ratios, rate and retention must be interpreted by accident period, maturity, mix and changing exposure.

Leading indicators

Referral patterns, quote conversion, exceptions, claims notifications, data timeliness and action closure can reveal change earlier.

Design for decisions

Every metric should support a specific management or capacity decision; decorative reporting creates volume without insight.

WHY IT MATTERS

Use the structure to ask better questions.

The label is only a starting point. Authority, economics, risk ownership, data rights and governance determine how an arrangement works in practice. Decision-makers should test the underlying evidence and contract rather than infer quality from terminology alone.

EDITORIAL NOTE

This guide provides a high-level educational overview. Market terminology and legal obligations vary by jurisdiction and agreement. MGA Index updates reference pages when material market practice changes.
